Advance Cardiac life Support Certification
Course Description
ACLS certification class is designed to teach healthcare professionals who either direct or participate in the management of cardiopulmonary arrest and other cardiovascular emergencies skills necessary to recognize and manage critical life threatening medical emergencies. This includes but not limited to emergency response personnel, emergency medicine, intensive care and critical care units.
Course Objectives
- Upon Completion of this course the healthcare professional will:
- Identify Key changes in advanced cardiovascular life support, reflecting the 2010 American Heart Identify AHA guidelines for cardiopulmonary resuscitation and emergency cardiovascular care
- Effectively demonstrate basic life support skills, including effective chest compressions, use of a bag-mask device and use of an (AED)
- Demonstrate competency in recognition and early management of respiratory and cardiac arrest
- Demonstrate competency in recognition and early management of peri-arrest conditions such as symptomatic bradycardia
- Demonstrate competency in airway management
- Demonstrate competency in related pharmacology
- Demonstrate competency in management of acute coronary syndromes (ACS) and stroke
- Demonstrate competency in effective communication as a member and leader of a resuscitation team
- Demonstrate competency in effective Resuscitation team dynamics
Mode of Delivery
Classroom lecture utilizing audio visual aids, clinical laboratory practice and lab simulation.

8-16 hrs.
Course Duration
One day for renewals. Two days for initial certification. Students are expected to spend at least 8 to 16 hours of independent studies on case studies and research activities accompanying this course prior to taking the class.

Enrollment Criteria
Students are expected to enroll at least one week before the class. Books are to be purchased separately. Classes are open to healthcare professionals who work in critical care areas and need ACLS certification. Classes are also open to healthcare professional who are seeking to increase their knowledge base and skills in response to critical health situations.
Course Materials
Students are expected to purchase the 90-1014 ACLS Provider Manual, includes ACLS Pocket Reference Card Set and 90-1012 ACLS Pocket Reference Card Set (set of 2)
Program Completion Requirement
American Heart Association ACLS Providers Course Completion Card is valid for two years.
Students must attend class, and complete the didactic component, pass the written examination and hands-on lab practice in order to obtain certification card. A letter of completion will be written pending arrival of cards.
In the classroom, students are expected to participate in simulated clinical scenarios and learning stations. Students work with an AHA ACLS Instructor to complete ACLS skills practice and skills testing. Students must also complete a written exam. Students who are not successful in the skills and written exam will be given one more chance to retake the test. After retaking the test and still unsuccessful, the student will have to reschedule for another class and pay a new fee.
