Approval and Regulations

Nursing Bridges Institute training site and Basic life support (BLS) Cardiopulmonary resuscitation (CPR) course is approved by the American Heart Association.

Course Title

Basic Life Support Certification

Course Description

This classroom-based course assist healthcare professionals learn to recognize several life-threatening emergencies, provide CPR to victims of all ages, use an AED, and relieve choking in a safe, timely and effective manner.

Course Objectives

Upon Completion of this course the healthcare professional will identify:

  • Key changes in basic life support, reflecting the new science from the 2010 American Heart Association Guidelines for Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation and Emergency Cardiovascular Care
  • Critical concepts of high-quality CPR
  • The American Heart Association Chain of Survival
  • 1-Rescuer CPR and AED for adult, child and infant
  • 2-Rescuer CPR and AED for adult, child and infant
  • Differences between adult, child and infant rescue techniques
  • Bag-mask techniques for adult, child and infant
  • Rescue breathing for adult, child and infant
  • Relief of choking for adult, child and infant
  • CPR with an advanced airway*

Mode of Delivery

Classroom lecture utilizing audio visual aids, clinical laboratory practice and lab simulation.

4-6 hrs.

Course Duration

One day. Students are expected to spend at least four to six hours of independent studies on case studies and research activities accompanying this course prior to taking the class.

Initial certification $50.00

Re-certification: $45.00

Enrollment Criteria

Students are expected to enroll at least one week before the class. Books are to be purchased separately. Classes are open to all healthcare professionals, daycare workers, workers in the restaurant industry and any individual interested in learning how to respond in times of medical agency.

Course Material

Students are expected to purchase the BLS for HCP Student Manual (90-2800US  2010 International Version English) (IVE)

Program Completion Requirement

American Heart Association BLS for Healthcare Providers Course Completion Card is valid for two years.

Students must attend class, and complete the didactic component, pass the written examination and hands-on lab practice in order to obtain certification card.

In the classroom, students are expected to participate in simulated clinical scenarios and learning stations. Students work with an AHA BLS Instructor to complete BLS skills practice and skills testing. Students must also complete a written exam. Students who are not successful in the skills and written exam will be given one more chance to retake the test. After retaking the test and still unsuccessful, the student will have to reschedule for another class and pay a new fee.
