A hands-on Training for Nurses/Clinicians with little or no experience in IV Infusion therapy or experienced nurses who need review of their IV Skills.

Basic IV Therapy Course

The IV therapy training for nurses course is designed for Registered nurses, licensed vocational nurses, nursing students, paramedics, and other licensed practitioners who are or will be involved in inserting, caring, and maintaining intravenous infusion. The IV therapy training for nurses emphasis on hand-on IV start or cannulation, which is the insertion of a cannula (plastic tubing) into a blood vessel.

In the class, students would learn:

Steps in preparing for venipuncture

Outline steps for successful IV cannula insertion

Setting up primary lines, secondary lines and converting to Saline Lock / Hep-lock

All types of fluids, isotonic, hypotonic, hypertonic, etc.

Vein identification, location, selection, and preparation for cannulation

Care, monitoring, and discontinuation of an IV

Identification of nursing intervention for post-insertion care

Complications of IV therapy and Management of Complications

Troubleshooting tips on common reasons for problems during venipuncture

Nurses, clinicians in acute, Home Health, and Skilled Facilities who wish to improve their IV skills.

Advanced Infusion Therapy

Hands-on training on Central line skills and management

This program will focus on the day to day advance infusion related topics to help navigate the attending individual in achieving competencies in the specified skills. Infusion therapy training classes, being an area commonly associated with nursing negligence, calls for the needs to educate nurses and students, not only about their legal responsibilities and limitations but to equip them with the needed day to day skills.

Types of Venous Access Devices

Differentiate between Peripheral line, Midline, PICC and Central Venous Access Devices (CVADs)

Infusion in acute settings and alternate settings,e.g., Home Health, Doctor’s offices etc.

Central line complications

Measures to prevent catheter-related bloodstream infections,e.g. (CLABSI)

Site Care and dressing changes

Flushing and Locking Protocols

Blood specimen collection from CVADs

Prevention and management of line occlusion

PICC and Non-tunneled Central line Removal

Accessing and De-accessing venous Ports (Port a Cath) (RNs only)

Our Skill enhancement courses are designed to enable candidates (Graduate nurses, Graduate Vocational nurses, New RNs, LVNs, foreign-trained nurses or Licensed nurses who have been away from the hospital setting) to acquire more knowledge of skills needed to handle today’s challenging work environments.

Our focus is to provide nursing education with emphasis on hands-on training for the common day-to-day skills in the acute setting. This program consists of visual aides, demonstrations and practice sessions. It is primarily aimed at achieving competence and mastery of basic and mostly encountered skills in the health care settings.
